Dwyrin looked around noticing the emptyness more than anything else. It was only when she was outside the cities that she thought about how many people she actually saw every day. There were no signs of life, other than the few squat desert trees. "Nice place," she mumbled to herself.

She walked past Kinai over to a piece of scrap metal on the ground, trying to decide the best way to go about forming something useful. She heated the middle to the point where she could break it in half, then set her mind to each one. When she was finished she held two crude - but sturdy - sais. Dwyrin turned and faced Kinai. "Go easy on me, I'm a bit out of practice," she said with a smirk

She skipped lightly sideways, letting him charge past her. Noticing his still sheathed weapon, she quickly slipped her sais into her sleeves, and turned to face whatever his next attack would be.

She saw something - three somethings - flying at her and threw up her arm just in time. One of the projectiles made a loud clink as it was deflected by the Sai in her sleeve. She ducked away from the remaining two. Taking the initiative, she launched toward him from her crouch, drawing her sais.

She struck at him in quick succession a few times, testing his reflexes. He blocked and parried her blows with ease, sword flashing. Pulling back for a moment, she left an opening. When he took it she whirled to the side and past him, slapping away his counter with a sai.

"You're wrong," she said as calmly as she could. She ran at him once more and dropped low to sweep his legs out from underneath him.

He stabs the blade into the ground, and she kicks the blade. He made sure not to cut her so he had the dull end of the blade facing her. "Try harder" he states as he kicks her a couple yards back

So perhaps he was a bit better than she had originally thought. Good.

Dwyrin tumbled through the sand before quickly rising to her feet and immediately coming at him once more. She dexterously flipped one of the sais, to grab it by the blade, and threw it. She aimed low and he obliged her by blocking it with his sword. By then she was only a foot from him. While his sword was still low, she brought her other sai down on top of it, and caught the blade between the long middle part, and one of the shorter sidee pieces, driving the tip down into the ground. Using the hand in the sand for leverage, she slammed a well timed roundhouse into his side. It sent him sprawling.

She straightened once more and looked at him, smiling. She realized she was having fun. "It's not fair if only I try harder, now is it??"

He rolls in the sand and catches himself raising to his feet laughing. He chooses to fight bare handed as of now. When he clenches and unclenches his fist it shows a transmutation circle in each palm meaning in his right "Chaos" and in the left meant "Fear"

Seeing the cirles on his hands, she grabbed both sais off the ground and retreated a couple steps, looking about for anything she may be able to use against his incipient attack.

As the sand had started rising, she had closed her eyes, and avoided the majority of the grit. But not all of it. She could feel individual grains grinding into her eyes and couldn't believe that she had discarded the idea of using the sand as a weapon, thinking that he may have considered it a dirty trick. She knew better, now.

Two strikes connected, knocking the wind from her, before she could put up a better defense. Keeping her eyes closed she jumped backwards and blocked another attack she felt heading for her mid-section.

After a moment of recovery from the jarring blow she did as she was bid. It didn't take much concentration, her eyes were closed and all she did was react to the sound of his voice. Being on the ground had it's advantages. She reached out and snatched his ankle then rolled, all in one motion. When Dwyrin felt his body hit the ground next to her, she let go and scrambled to her feet, once again.

He hits the ground and laughs as he flips to his feet "better" He proclaims he claps his hands together and brings them apart and when he slowly brings them back together it causes the sand storm to stir up worse causing the sand to buffet her hearing too

Sand swirled around them and the wind pounded sheets of the stinging stuff into any exposed flesh. The sounds of his clothes rustling, his breathing, and his footfalls disappearded under the constant noise of the alchemical sandstorm. Dwyrin considered tearing a piece of her thin undershirt to tie across her eyes. But this was a good chance to practice where she wasn't actually going to be killed. Probably. Deciding against it she settled into herself and took a deep breath, falling into the trance-like state of battle.

Something was wrong. Very, very wrong. But at the moment she could not put her finger on it. She was suddenly uneasy but tried to push the thought aside.

Now, she knew what it was. It was as if she was being spoken to, though all she could actually hear was the storm. The words - that weren't actual words - seeped into her brain, poisoning her thoughts and suddenly she knew she would fail. It was hopeless. She would accomplish nothing she had set out to do. Her life had been wasted and meaningless. Knowing her complete lack of competency would crush her friends' and allies' spirits. But wait - she didn't have friends or allies, did she?? Through her complete misery she felt something pliable grind into her knees. Something inside fought to know what it was.
It was sand.
Wait...Sand?? Where am I??

She opened her eyes and quickly shut them against the wind and sand. She was on her knees and it took her a moment to remember how she got there. Then she was angry. She knew exactly where Kinai was, and she rushed him, sending them both to the ground.

The sandstorm dropped at the break in his concentration, and revealed the two of them. She stradled his waist with a hand on his shoulder. In the other hand was her ring - she had lost her sais somewhere - transmuted into a small but effective senbon against his throat. His sword was also in his hand, with the tip hovering just below her heart.

"This was not mental warfare," she said dangerously.
